About Us
Honeysuckle House is a small-scale flower farm located in Watauga County. We specialize in heirloom and fragrant flowers. In addition, we tend to the trees and flowering shrubs that have grown around our farmhouse (circa 1892) for generations. We gravitate toward varieties that your great-grandmother might have adored: fragrant narcissus, checkered fritillaria, peonies, roses, gladioli, hydrangeas, and dahlias. We also value native species, including cultivars of honeysuckle, and save space for native annuals and perennials like Joe Pye weed. Honeysuckle House flowers are cultivated with the help of family members, friends, and a tiny flock of Shetland sheep that contribute with their excellent mowing skills and and gentle encouragement. Their lovely high-quality fleeces are available in the summer after their yearly shearing.
Practices
We feel lucky to inhabit this parcel of paradise in Watauga County and take our relationship with the land seriously. Our hope is to leave the historic buildings, plants, and especially the soil in better condition than we found it. We avoid using toxic herbicides, pesticides, and fertilizers, and only use those that are organically approved as a last resort. We strive to continually educate ourselves regarding the best practices to build the health of the soil and to find non-harmful ways to co-exist with the biological abundance on our property.
