About Us
About Us: sggarden@skybest.com
Located: 25 miles from the the Food Hub.
Shady Grove Gardens and Nursery is a Cut Flower farm. Our farm is in Ashe Co. NC. Our flower studio, house plus nursery and coolers are in Zionville, NC (Watauga Co.) Brent and Susan farm 5ac. with 3 High Tunnels plus one propagation and one seedling house.
We grow a wide range (over 500 varieties) of shrubs, perennial, bulbs and annuals.
We employ 1-2 people in addition to Susan and Brent working full time in the business.
Mission: To preserve and manage land for conservation while making a living producing beautiful fresh flowers for local sales in the High Country.

WEDDINGS and cut flowers are our only business. We use our own flowers in wedding design giving a unique sense of place and style you will get nowhere else. We describe our floral style as seasonal, garden-style, abundant, natural and organic.

As a part of the 'Slow Flowers' movement we are members of the Specialty Cut Flower Growers Association, Field to Vase and Farmer Florist groups. Only 20% of flowers used in the USA, are grown in this country, we are working very hard to change that. We hope you will support us.

We recycle and reuse wherever possible.
We start our own transplants, cut flower seedlings and most perennials. All without a heated greenhouse.
We choose flowers that fit into this environment.
We own and care for 100 acres. Farming on only 5 acres, and live on less than 2. The rest of our 100 acres are in woodland, some are in old fields, used to attract beneficial insects and birds. All are lightly managed for non-game wildlife, especially birds. We spend time every year removing invasive non-native plants, along with habitat management for a few rare species.
We hope you will support our farm, for our conservation mission, as well as our great flowers and plants.
Practices
Sustainably Grown Flowers:
Looking for Locally and Sustainably grown flowers?
Our growing practices have changed very little since we started in 1986. So we don't get too excited over buzzwords like 'sustainable'. However, that is how we grow everything! We were green before there was another meaning to 'Green'.
We grow all our own flowers using organic methods, we are not certified. Our vegetables are self- certified organic. We come to farming as biologist managing 80% of our land for wildlife habitat and additional farm space each year for pollinators.

If you are looking for local flowers, we are it. Don't be fooled by 'local florist' or websites that claim to be farms. Regardless, of their claims their flowers are not grown right here in the High Country mountains. 'We are your Local Flower Farmers.'
Our flowers are pesticide free. We use biological controls for pest and diseases.
