About Us
We are Don and Belinda Carringer. We both grew up in Western North Carolina and farming is part of our family heritage. Don has farmed all his life and planted his first cantaloupes at age 5.
Don learned a lot working with both his grandparents on their farms. We both were in 4-H. Don and his family grew a 1/4 acre of tomatoes (3,000 plants) as a 4-H project when he was 12 years old.
Don is totally crazy about farming and Belinda has found her own niche in this endeavor. We started doing farmers markets in 2008 and added on providing produce, jams, jellies, relishes, and honey to restaurants a few years later. Don started keeping bees in 2012 and has about 30-35 hives during the summer. We harvested about 1,000 lbs. of honey last year. We started raising microgreens about 2018. We bought a 9 acre farm in Altamont, near Newland and moved to the high country full time in 2022. Our first year at the Boone Winter Farmers Market was 2020 and 2023 will be our first season at the King Street Farmers Market. Don grows a large variety of vegetables, grows red and white dent corn for stone ground corn meal and grits, and Belinda makes fresh jams, jellies, relishes, and apple butter.
For the first few years, we called this a hobby. Looking back, this now brings a smile to our faces.
Practices
We use organic measures for pest control.
